Seven Kingdoms: Seowyn's Crossing
Sigurth’s Climb is the capital city of the Human kingdom of Norhast. It is the residence of the Jarl, leader of the Hastane or Northmen. It is built into the seacliffs at the very north edge of Aldorath, looking out over the Frozen Sea.
It is named for Sigurth Threeaxe, a Hastane leader who led the Hastane to flee south from Jotunheld and the threat of giantish oppression. When the Hastane longboats couldn’t find any suitable place to land, Sigurth climbed the sheer rockface to see if there was anything above them. To his delight, he found natural sea-caves that could be worked and made into an incredibly well-defended city.
Eventually, stone columns were sunk deep into the waters by Hastane wizards, and piers were built. The only way up or down to Sigurth’s Climb from its harbor is be various pullied and roped platforms, magic, or the arduous climb itself. The only ways down from the plateau above are the same, although there are also narrow channels and stairs cut into the rock to allow one to climb from the city up, or from the plateau down. These features make Sigurth’s Climb one of the most daunting fortress cities of Aldorath, and it has never been successfully attacked or plundered.
