Genies (also spelled djinni) are powerful elemental beings of wind and storm from the Elemental Chaos. Although they were independent of the Primordials, the genies threw their lot in with them during the Dawn War. This decision has cost them greatly. The Gods have imprisoned many of them, sealing some of the most powerful and willful genies in inanimate objects and binding them to serve whoever finds such an item. Unlike the proud Efreeti, however, the genies have seen the error of their participation in the war. They see their current situation as a just punishment, and many serve willingly, believing they will be set free when they have paid for their part in the war. The fact that there are many free genies seems to bear this idea out.
